Academic Ethics
Editorial responsibilities
- The Tsing Hua Journal of Chinese Studies is an international refereed journal that provides a platform for the sharing and publication of academic research results from scholars in fields related to Chinese studies on topics that include literature, history, philosophy, linguistics and religion.
- If a submission is deemed to meet the Journal’s standards in topic, content and format, it will be sent out to two reviewers.
- Reviewer recommendations shall be made based on known ideal candidates. In addition, administrators shall take into account potential contributor-reviewer conflicts of interest (e.g., advisors, peers, and collaborators) to exclude unsuitable reviewers.
- All submitted manuscripts will undergo a double-blind peer review, where the editors take responsibility to keep the personal information of both the authors and the reviewers confidential.
- Upon acceptance of an article, authors will be asked to complete a transfer of the copyright of the article to National Tsing Hua University. Accepted manuscripts should be edited by authors in accordance with the format detailed in “Manuscript Guidelines for Articles.”
Peer review and the responsibilities for the referees
- The Journal expects the reviewers to strictly examine the submitted manuscripts according to the criteria of originality, correctness, and academic value in order to ensure the quality of review and improve the academic profile of the Journal.
- The reviewers should pay particular attention to the references employed in the submitted manuscripts, especially with regard to whether they are complete and used in reliable and adequate ways.
- The reviewers have the responsibility to keep all information in the submitted manuscripts confidential.
- Reviewers are asked to complete their reviews within one month of receipt and to provide clear reasons for judging the submission to be in one of the following four categories:
(1) Accepted
(2) Minor Revisions Required
(3) Major Revisions Required|
(4) Rejected
Author’s responsibilities
- Submission of a manuscript implies that the work has not been published previously, and that it is not under consideration for publication elsewhere.
- All authors must have materially participated in the research and/or preparation of the article. The publication must be approved by all authors and tacitly or explicitly approved by the responsible authorities.
- When submitting a manuscript, please follow the Journal’s submission guidelines. Only articles in Chinese and English will be accepted for consideration.
- Where material is taken from other sources (including the author’s own published writing) the source must be clearly cited and appropriate permissions obtained.
- If the work involves the use of animal or human subjects, the author must ensure that the manuscript contains a statement that all procedures were performed in compliance with relevant laws and institutional guidelines and that the appropriate institutional committee(s) have approved them.
- When an author discovers a significant error or inaccuracy in his/her own published work, it is the author’s responsibility to promptly notify the editorial board and cooperate with the editor to retract or correct the paper. Authors should present an accurate account of the work performed as well as an objective discussion of its significance.
Publication ethics
- The Journal is funded by the Research Institute for the Humanities and Social Sciences, the National Science and Technology Council, and the Office of Academic Affairs of National Tsing Hua University. Publications with commercial intent shall be rejected.
- Upon learning of a breach of academic ethics, the Journal shall convene a review panel to determine the best course of action.
- Whenever it is recognized that a published paper contains a significant inaccuracy, the editors will publish corrections and clarifications in the next issue.
- The editors will retract a publication if contributors are proven to have committed misconduct or plagiarism.
