Abstract |
This paper illustrates how the Chinese Nationalist Government tried to use cooperative as a socio-political instrument in mainland China (1928-1949) but only met with little success. Section 1 reviews the historical background and development stages of the cooperative movement. Section 2 examines the trends and structure change of different types of cooperatives. The financing system of the cooperative sector is analyzed in section 3, section 4, and 5 evaluate the performance of cooperatives and their impact on social and political affairs. The last section overviews the characteristics and problems of the cooperative movement, and explains why it only had limited success. |
